Thanks for making me smile. We - the normal 'we' who don't keep poultry but merely purchase our eggs at the supermarket, have no idea of the idiosyncracies of these birds. It is quite sad to learn that battery-hens have had most of their natural instincts suffocated out of them, and I'm pleased I am a 'free-range' only purchaser.

Thanks for stopping by. They can provide both mayhem and entertainment. The lack of natural instincts e.g. not sitting on eggs, will also be a factor of breeding, but those who've come to us from old style pre-regulation batteries have all needed to learn how to be hens.
