LOL! A carpet, outside, in the damp. What was the miscreant thinking?

They are so useful: keeping in the natural heat of a compost bin, suffocating weeds prior to a

border dig. And if it's in reasonable shape, choose a room that needs a piece of rug. Gosh, where's the family's inate thrift gone??

Turns out it's an ancient but large carpet scrap that's been at the back of the shed for years and was taken out, exactly as you suggest, for covering borders. In fact, had I had my wits about me, I would have linked the fact that several borders…
