Exactly, Katy Lin. My muttering to various friends brought the same bewildered reaction. Just over three years seems to be par for the course, no matter the purchase price.

And we still haven't replaced it. We manually make enough filter coffee then wrap the jug in a tea cosy. In fact I am thinking of buying a thermal jug for it, or even rooting out an old thermos flask!
